The Multnomah Neighborhood Emergency Team (MNET) is composed of fellow Multnomah neighbors who volunteer to promote emergency preparedness in the Multnomah Neighborhood. Each member of our Team shares an interest in preparing ourselves and our neighbors for possible emergencies ranging from extreme weather events to larger disasters such as the Cascadia Subduction Zone Earthquake.
In the event of a major emergency, MNET volunteers can provide disaster assistance when first responders such as police or fire are not immediately available.
NET volunteers receive free training through the Portland Bureau of Emergency Management (PBEM) and Portland Fire & Rescue. Major training topics include: basic emergency response, light search and rescue, medical triage, and radio communications. Additional free advanced training opportunities are available throughout the year.
Through our Community Preparedness Pod program, we assist neighbors and business organizations that want to organize themselves into resilient, emergency-prepared communities. We provide an understanding of the potential effects of a major earthquake and how to prepare. We also provide guidance for emergency water solutions, sanitation, communication planning, and other aspects of emergency preparedness.
In recent years, MNET volunteers have assisted in many emergency locations such as COVID testing and vaccination sites, downed power line locations, warming and cooling centers, and a fire evacuation center during the 2020 Clackamas County wildfires.
In non-emergency situations, we promote individual and neighborhood emergency preparedness at community events such as block parties, picnics, and larger events such as Multnomah Days, Earth Day, and many Multnomah Neighborhood Association events.
